Monday was such a strange day. Nala and I got tangled up in a jumping cholla while out on our run. There was a bunch in the road and I was attempting to move them but Nala decided to sniff one. She got cactus buried in her nose. Then she used her paw to try to get it off her nose and got them in her hand. I was trying to help her but it was awful seeing her struggle so I just grabbed it. Needless to say I got a bunch stuck in my hand. Ouch. Jim was going in to work late on Monday so luckily once we got home I had help getting them out. Poor Nala.
Then I went outside in our "Arizona Room" and there was a scorpion sleeping on the wall. I smashed it but EWWWW. So gross.
I told Jim I hope all our excitement for the day was over. Unfortunately it wasn't.
When I got home that afternoon the road going up to our house was closed. Its a one lane hilly road. It seems that some young guy (around 20) was told by his girlfriends mother that this road was fun to speed on. The girlfriends mother was following in her car. Supposedly, he flew down this one lane road in his Mustang at close to 60 miles per hour. The road has hills and swerves around saguaros. He could not make it. He went airborne and took out 2 saguaros. He is lucky he did not kill himself and other people.
The saguaro landed on top of his car and crushed the whole front end. It was completely totaled.
The girlfriends mother loaded up him and his girlfriend into her car and took them to the hospital. He called him mom and his mom came to the accident to talk to the cops and look at the car. I felt bad for her because she had to answer for her son and deal with things. At least she was embarrassed over his actions. He is so lucky nobody was coming up the road when he was speeding down. Actually, we weren't driving up there. Wow.
I had to leave my car at the mailboxes and walk about a half mile home because the cops wouldn't let us drive through until the investigation was done. It was 104 degrees out and I had heals on. Ouch. Long walk home.
Then neighbor cleaned up the road with his tractor and everything is quiet again in our neighborhood. Except two tall beautiful saguaros that lined the road are missing. Dumb stupid kid.

I'm so glad no one was hurt. We seldom think of how our actions will affect others until its too late. While this wasn't a really happy post, I appreciate you sharing it.
Thanks again.
Thanks for your comments Tim. I've been wondering what happened to you. I always look forward to you commenting since few others do. Yes, It makes me angry that people come up here to our area and be disrespectful of our environment.
Its so hot here I think people are losing their minds. Myself included. We hit 112 here on Saturday. Whew. The monsoons rains should be hitting this next week and for the first time ever...I'm happy for the rain. I'm not looking forward the them actually hitting us but oh well. I'm still looking forward to August. ;-)
Hopefully it provides some relief from the intense heat, some awesome photo opportunities and helps relieve your mood...
We've been extremely dry this year and desperately need rain. Lately its threatened lots but nothings come of it... forecast is for more rain today so fingers crossed that something comes... our hay crop is really sad.
Well gonna run, will chat at you more later.
