May 12 - Juneau, AK

Alaska! It started to get light about 4:30am. I got out of bed and opened the drapes to see Alaska for the first time. This is what I saw...

It was a start to a beautiful day.

We arrived in Juneau about 2:00pm and the ship was scheduled to leave at 10:00pm. We booked a cruise to go whale watching. Mom and Dad booked a city tour that took them out to the Mendenhall Glacier and Glacier Gardens. Our tour took us out into Lynn Fijord to whale watch. The humpback whales are arriving from Hawaii, where they spend the winter. There were quite a few of them. We had some extra time when we got done with the whale watching and so we went up the tran to Mt. Roberts. What a beautiful view of the Gastineau Channel and Juneau. There was too much snow to go hiking so we had to be happy with the walk back to the ship.

We also saw eagles. One which swooped down right in front of us and grabbed a salmon out of the water.

The last photo was taken as we were getting ready to pull out of Juneau at 9:45pm. It was a wonderful day from sunrise to sunset.
