May 15 - Ketchikan, AK

May 15. Our anniversary. What a wonderful gift to be able to spend the day in Ketchikan. We arrived about 6:00am. We did our morning walk on the treadmill, had breakfast and disembarked to see what Ketchikan was all about. There were two other ships in port. That means about 6,000 tourists in town. It seemed that every shop we went in was just geared toward the tourist. I would have loved to get out of town and away from all the tourists. We walked around Creek Street. The original part of the town in the 1890's. I think it was kind of the red light district but not sure. Now its just tourist shops. We met up with Mom and Dad and they wanted to walk around town some more so Jim and I went back to the ship. We went up to the cafe outside in the back of the ship . We spent about 3 hours up there watching the float planes come in and take off. It was great. There were also plenty of eagles flying around. Mom and Dad joined us up there and we stayed until the ship departed Ketchikan at about 1:30. This was our last port of call in Alaska. That night, Jim and I went out to the Latin restaurant for dinner (Mexican food) and then met up with Mom and Dad for a entertaining show in the theatre. It was an awesome day.
